  3. CNES hosts 143rd ESO Council

    Tuesday 10 October, the 143rd Council of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) was held for the first time at CNES Head Office in Paris. ESO is the pre-eminent intergovernmental science and technology organization in astronomy, with an ambitious programme focused on the design, construction and operation of powerful ground-based observing facilities for astronomy. It also plays a leading role in promoting and organizing cooperation in astronomical research.

  4. France-United States space cooperation- Launch of OSIRIS-REx mission

    The OSIRIS-REx mission was launched Friday 9 September at 01:05 from the Cape Canaveral base in Florida, on board an Atlas V launcher. In an absolute first, the mission probe will rendezvous with asteroid Bennu in August 2018 to conduct a detailed study of this small near-Earth object, map its surface and then perform a rapid “Touch-and-Go” in order to take samples such as regolith and return them to Earth in 2023.

  5. CNES Head Office hosts 9th CoSpace Steering Committee meeting

    Co-chaired by CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Jean Loïc Galle, Chair of the Space Committee of GIFAS, the French aerospace industries association, and Chairman & CEO of Thales Alenia Space, the Steering Committee of the CoSpace government-industry space coordination committee met today, Friday 17 April, at CNES Head Office for the 9th time since its inception. Items on the agenda included the COP21 global climate summit and the role of satellites in the study of climate factors, currently the subject of intense discussions as space is playing a key role in laying the groundwork for this meeting in December.

  6. CoSpace Steering Committee focuses on satellites

    Co-chaired by CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Jean Loïc Galle, Chair of the GIFAS (French aerospace industries association) Space Committee and Chairman & CEO of Thales Alenia Space, the steering committee of the CoSpace government-industry space coordination committee met today, Thursday 19 February, at CNES Head Office for the 8th time since its inception. The meeting focused in particular on satellites.

  7. CNES and the French Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Research renew partnership for another four years

    Friday 19 June in CNES’s pavilion at the 51st International Paris Air Show, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and France’s Director-General of School Education, Florence Robine, signed a four-year renewal of the space culture outreach agreement designed to encourage pupils to choose science and technology studies.
