    Thursday 6 June, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall was in Tokyo to lay the groundwork for the space agenda of the State Visit of President Emmanuel Macron to Japan on 26 and 27 June. On this occasion and in the presence of Laurent Pic, France’s Ambassador to Japan, he met Takuya Hirai, Minister of State for Space Policy, Shuzo Takada, Director General of the National Space Policy Secretariat, Hiroshi Yamakawa, President of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and Mizuhiko Hosokawa, Vice-President of the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT).

  15. France-Australia space cooperation- Climate, Innovation and Exploration: CNES signs three partnership agreements

    Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 February in Canberra, France and Australia held ministerial-level meetings on science and innovation in the presence of France’s Minister for Higher Education, Research and Innovation Frédérique Vidal and the heads of the French national scientific research centre CNRS, the French national institute for health and medical research INSERM, the French national research agency ANR and CNES, paving the way for future research cooperation between the two nations. On the sidelines of these meetings and accompanied by Frédérique Vidal, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall signed three partnership agreements in the fields of climate change, innovation and human spaceflight with Australia’s top research organizations. These agreements follow on from the signature in 2018 of a strategic partnership accord between CNES and the Australian Space Agency (ASA) that made France the newly formed agency’s first international partner.

  17. Three satellites shortlisted for Earth Explorer 10

    Three new satellite concepts have been selected by ESA to compete for its 10th Earth Explorer mission. The winner will join the agency’s environment and climate research programme in 2027-2028. We talk with Juliette Lambin, who heads CNES’s Earth, Environment and Climate programme, about the technical innovations the candidates are proposing and the scientific discoveries they promise.

  18. France-United States space cooperation- InSight Mars exploration mission,first tests of French SEIS seismometer successful

    After the excitement and tension of its successful landing on Mars on Monday 26 November, InSight has started powering up and checking out its subsystems. The SEIS1 seismometer, supplied by CNES as lead contractor with the IPGP global physics institute in Paris as principal investigator working with teams at the French national scientific research centre CNRS, was tested out on Friday 30 November. Everything is nominal and the instrument is in great shape.

    Friday 14 September, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall held a press conference at the agency’s Head Office in Paris Les Halles to set out the key challenges that will face the space exploration missions marking the end of this year, as well as future exploration missions to be pursued through ESA programmes and international partnership efforts. He was accompanied at the briefing by scientists working on the Hayabusa2/MASCOT, BepiColombo and InSight mission teams.
