    A meeting of CNES’s Science Programmes Committee (CPS) was held at CNES headquarters in Paris on Wednesday, 31 May 2017. The CPS advises the CNES Board of Directors on matters relating to space science research and helps it to shape the agency’s science priorities.

  7. Forecasting weather and understanding climate with CFOSat

    CFOSat (China-France Oceanography Satellite) was launched today, Monday 29 October, into low Earth orbit. This first joint mission with China is set to deliver data for weather forecasting and long-term climate research. Thierry Amiot, principal investigator for the satellite’s SWIM instrument at CNES, and Lotfi Aouf, a research scientist at the French national weather service Meteo-France, explain.

  9. European space cooperation, CNES and ESRIN meet to discuss Earth-observation programmes

    Tuesday 18 July, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall met ESA Director of Earth Observation Joseph Aschbacher at ESRIN, the European Space Research INstitute, to discuss the Earth Observation Envelope Programme (EOEP), future trends in this field and additions to the Copernicus Space Component.

    The 2016 plenary session of COPUOS, the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, is being held all this week in Vienna, Austria. CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall was there to give a speech on efforts engaged in the wake of the COP21 and how the space sector is helping to monitor climate and drive growth.

    Ten years ago to the day, on 28 April 2006, the French-U.S. CALIPSO satellite was sent aloft from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, atop a Delta II launcher to take up its place in the A-Train constellation. With CALIPSO set to celebrate 10 years of science measurements this June, it is time to reflect on a mission that has yielded a wealth of data offering new insights into the workings of Earth’s climate system.

    Monday 5 January, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall delivered his New Year wishes to members of the French and international press in the Salle de l’Espace at Paris Les Halles. This traditional gathering provided the opportunity to review a year of historic successes for CNES and to present the agency’s strategy and challenges for 2015, a year in which the focus will be on climate in the lead-up to the COP 21 global climate summit in Paris in December.
